Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to fall hazards while using the" Fitch mid size" roof rollers in conjunction with the "Sky Genie" rope descent devices. The roof rollers used did not have a tieback to an independent anchorage point. One Congress Street, Boston, Massachusetts: The employees were exposed to the hazards of equipment failure when tie-backs were not provided, for the three "Fitch Mid-size" roof rollers, to independent anchorage points. A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard, among other methods, is the installation of an independent cable from the roof roller to a structural member of the building as required by the manufacture and IWCA 1-14.1-2001.
