NRTL Update #8 (called "Short NRTL Update") (January 2, 2003)
Hello Everybody:

This is a short update, and each NRTL is receiving this e-mail. However, I am sending it to each of our primary NRTL contacts individually, instead of using a distribution, as a test to identify who may not be receiving e-mails from our system. Occasionally, we experience problems with our e-mails, and using a distribution has made this identification difficult.

  1. Federal Register notice to modify the recognition of certain NRTLs

Attached is an advance copy of the text of a Federal Register notice (both in Word and WordPerfect) to modify the scope of recognition of certain NRTLs for test standards that have been withdrawn or replaced. The notice is due to be published in the Federal Register on January 6. If your organization is not listed in this notice, then it does not apply to you. If it applies and you find mistakes or have changes, please contact me or Sherrey Nicolas). We will make the corrections or modifications or will contact you if necessary to discuss your information. Also, let us know if you have a problem opening the attachment.

You may recall that we emailed a list of the affected test standards to all NRTLs a few months ago. However, we experienced some e-mail transmission problems at the time and so you may not have received our e-mail, or we did not receive the response you sent to us.

(Note: Attachments have been replaced; see published notice)

  2. Expanding our distribution list for updates

As you may know, our updates cover items of general interest to NRTLs, including issues that we have identified concerning the NRTL Program or certain aspects of OSHA's requirements, policies, and procedures concerning NRTLs. As a result, the updates may be of interest to technical managers and other key technical personnel that are located at your main and other site(s) and that have major responsibility for your NRTL testing or certification activities. If you would like us to send our updates to any of these personnel, please provide us with their name, title, and e-mail address. You can of course provide this information for whomever else in your organization you think should receive our e-mail updates. If you do not wish to add any other names, please let us know that too.

As an aside, if there are issues or items you would like for us to try to address in an update, let us know that too.

  3. Tax or EIN numbers

Our financial management office has requested that we obtain the U.S. tax ID or EIN number for each NRTL. They need the number for purposes of recording and reporting the NRTL fees that you pay to OSHA. Please provide the number to me unless you have already provided it. If you do not have a U.S. tax or EIN number, please let me know. We only want the number for the corporation that is listed on our web page as the main office for your organization and not for any other site(s) included in your recognition. If you need to provide the number for an entity other than that corporation, please provide us with a brief explanation for doing so.

  4. No changes to fees

Each year we review the fees that we charge to NRTLs to determine whether any changes are warranted. We completed our review recently and have determined that we will make no changes. Therefore, the fees schedule shown on our web site is still in effect. That schedule went into effect on 1/1/2002.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your effort in providing or obtaining the information we are requesting.
