<< Back to Workshop - What to Look for in Gas Detection and Measurement Instrumentation

    TEXT VERSION OF SLIDE:

Title: Metal Oxide Semiconductor (Solid State)

    Type: Text Slide

    Content:
    • Theory - Gas reacts with MOS (tin dioxide) and changes its resistance. This change in resistance is measured by the meter
    • Gases Measured - Nearly all oxidizable gases can be detected on the solid state sensor

    Notes:
    • Theory - This sensor typically consists of a bead of tin oxide formed around two fine coils of platinum wire. When the bead is heated using one of the coils, the analyte gas will oxidize on the bead surface, changing the electrical conductivity as measured between the heated and unheated coils.
    • Gases Measured - Nearly all oxidizable gases can be detected on the solid state sensor.
