- September 28-30, 2004: Plastics USA 2004, McCormick Place East, Chicago,
Illinois.
- Representatives from the OSHA and SPI Alliance staffed an Alliance Program
exhibit booth and distributed OSHA safety and health information, including
Plastics Industry CDs developed by the Alliance, during the conference.
- July 16, 2004: Machine Safety for Plastic Roll-Fed and Inline
Thermoforming, Placon Corporation, Community Room, 6096 McKee Road, Madison,
Wisconsin. SPI and OSHA Alliance Workshop.
- April 27 - 28, 2004: SPI Sheet Producers Division, Spring Technical Conference, Doubletree Hotel & Conference Center, Chesterfield, Missouri.
- April 27, 2004: OSHA/SPI Alliance Overview, Susan Howe, then-Senior
Technical Director, Worker and Product Safety, SPI, shared details of the
Alliance between SPI and OSHA with more than 60 representatives from the
plastics industry who produced plastic resins, manufacture sheet
and/or roll stock, or manufacture machinery for use in the extrusion of
plastic material.
- April 28, 2004: OSHA/SPI Machine Safety Extrusion Class: Presented by
Jim Washam, then-Machine Guarding and Lockout Coordinator, Region V, Chicago
North, Illinois Area Office, USDOL-OSHA; and Wayne Wilson, Corporate
Director of Safety Training, United Southern Industries, Inc. During this
train-the-trainer course, over 40 participants from the plastics industry
and OSHA's Region VII St. Louis and Kansas City Areas Offices and Michigan
OSHA learned about the types of injuries in the sheet and rollstock
extrusion process, discussed the possible causes of the injuries and
identified possible ways for employees to protect themselves by recognizing
the hazards. In addition, the group discussed requirements for guarding
machines and implementing solutions for identified problems.
