    TEXT VERSION OF TITLE SLIDE:

Title: OSHA Strategic Management Plan 2003-2008
    Content:

By 2008, reduce fatality rates 15% and injury/illness rates 20% through:

Goal 1 – Reduce occupational hazards through direct intervention

Goal 2 – Promote safety and health culture through compliance assistance, cooperative programs, and strong leadership

Goal 3 – Strengthen agency capabilities and infrastructure

    Speaker Notes:

Overall goal of OSHA’s Strategic Management Plan is to reduce the rate of workplace fatalities
by 15% by 2008, and to reduce the rate of workplace injuries and illnesses by 20% by 2008.

3 specific goals in Strategic Management Plan (listed in slide) will help achieve the overall goal.

    OSHA's Strategic Direction:

    • Maximize ROI: focus resources in areas that provide maximum return-on-investment
    • Target high hazard workplaces
    • Balance: enforcement, compliance assistance, cooperative programs
    • Address non-traditional areas, such as workplace violence and driving safety
    • Improve organization: ensure that OSHA has the expertise and capabilities to carry out its national leadership role
Ship and Boat building and repair is one of the areas of focus in the Strategic
Management Plan. This heightens our interest in working cooperatively with the industry.
