Overall goal of OSHA’s Strategic Management Plan is to reduce the rate of workplace fatalities
by 15% by 2008, and to reduce the rate of workplace injuries and illnesses by 20% by 2008.
3 specific goals in Strategic Management Plan (listed in slide) will help achieve the overall goal.
OSHA's Strategic Direction:
- Maximize ROI: focus resources in areas that provide maximum return-on-investment
- Target high hazard workplaces
- Balance: enforcement, compliance assistance, cooperative programs
- Address non-traditional areas, such as workplace violence and driving safety
- Improve organization: ensure that OSHA has the expertise and capabilities to carry out its national
leadership role
Ship and Boat building and repair is one of the areas of focus in the Strategic
Management Plan. This heightens our interest in working cooperatively with the industry.
