Agreement Establishing An Alliance
Between
Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA)
And
Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund (MIM W.C. Fund)
Purpose and Scope of Alliance:
Purpose:
- The intent of this alliance is to offer assistance to the fund members through increased safety
awareness by providing training, regional seminars, on site consultation and promotional and
educational material to the members and their staff.
Target Audience:
- Members of the Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund. These include but
are not limited to any business entity engaged in the manufacture, maintenance or supply of specific
materials, equipment or services integral to the metal working industry.
Major Alliance Activity:
- Promote the services available through CET Division including but not limited to safety and health
hazard surveys, employee and management level training. Promote and facilitate regional seminars to
promote knowledge and practical application of regulations that pertain to the members of the fund.
Alliance Benefit:
- Provide information and training to management level staff to help identify and control potential
hazards, reduce accident trends by providing training and information to staff level employees and
offer assistance in development, implementation and monitoring of safety programs, policies and
procedures.
Alliance Positive Impact:
- The Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund’s members and their staff
through their participation and support of the alliance will help provide a “workplace free of
recognizable hazards” while improving knowledge and understanding of the fundamental requirements
established by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration and working in conjunction
and in a spirit of cooperation with the CET Division of MIOSHA.
Goals and Objectives of Alliance:
- To promote and improve shop safety through providing and promoting safety and health awareness.
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will solicit members who meet the
criteria in the target audience to voluntarily participate in the Alliance.
- Participating members will announce their participation in the alliance by posting banners at
their facility
Outreach and Communication:
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will host and/or promote safety
related seminars throughout Michigan.
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will notify members of seminars and
encourage participation.
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund’s loss control department (CMI) will
participate and promote Alliance Programs.
Training and Education:
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will sponsor/promote CET seminars
covering:
Power Press Safety
Development and Implementation of and Safety and Health Management System
Lockout/Tagout
- Encourage members to participate in “on-site” safety inspections and consultation with applicable
training for management and hourly employees as needed.
Promoting Dialogue:
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will promote the Alliance by
inclusion of periodic articles in regular membership mailings and news release in locations to be
determined where seminars will take place.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Metalworking Industries of Michigan Workers Compensation Fund will act as the facilitator with the
members to schedule on site services such as inspections and training. Acting as the facilitator the
MIM W.C. Fund will schedule and arrange seminars designed to promote safety and employee well being
throughout the state.
- MIOSHA will provide on-site inspections, training and consultation services to MIM W.C. Fund
members.
- MIOSHA will promote the alliance in the MIOSHA News.
- MIOSHA will maintain communication to keep the MIM W.C. Fund up-to-date on MIOSHA activities.
Outcomes of Alliance Activities:
- The goal of this Alliance is to reduce injury and illness through management and employee
awareness and assistance. This will be accomplished by promoting the Alliance and working with the
Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration to develop and implement a working
relationship with the metalworking industry statewide.
Initiation and Cancellation of Agreement:
The alliance agreement is effective on the date of signing and will be in effect for 3 years. Prior
to the expiration of the agreement, the parties will confer and evaluate whether the agreement
should be extended. Without regard to the term of the agreement, any of the parties can terminate
the agreement with 30 days written notification.
