Alliance -- An OSHA Cooperative Program<< Back to State Plan Alliances

Purpose and Scope of Alliance:

  • The purpose of our alliance is to increase and promote on the job safety and health to our membership; improve their safety and health system; create better communication between our members and MIOSHA for the benefit of a safer workforce.

Goals and Objectives of Alliance:

  • To educate and support our members creating, maintaining and expanding their safety programs. We would like to increase communication between our members and MIOSHA. Our individual safety programs will help improve the safety of all of our members and their staff/employees. The outreach is approximately 3,000 people. We will also like to increase the knowledge of special programs available to members and help with our member's special situations.

Outreach and Communication:

  • Communication and outreach are key points for this to be successful. Through communication we will spread the information and promote MIOSHA consultation services to employers. We will accomplish this through our website, faxes, newsletters, committee meetings, networking and general member meetings. We feel that working, as partners will increase the number of employers dedicating themselves to the very important topic of safety and health.

Training and Education:

  • Scheduled monthly safety seminars
  • Compile a safety kit for employers to include sample manual, sample policies and procedures, forms and website and telephone information
  • Apprenticeship training, we currently have 325 students
  • DOL-BAT accredited training
  • Key management awareness courses
  • Research tools through the library we are building
  • Contract law seminar supervisory courses
  • Construction labor law management courses
  • Trade specific classes- master licensing class.
  • NEC electrical code update courses

Promoting Dialogue:

  • Through added communication we will be able to better promote MIOSHA's reputation to our members as wanting to help all employers with improving their individual safety programs. Some of our members know that the bottom line is to keep employees safe, but they are worried about inviting MIOSHA in. This alliance could greatly improve the relationships because the members will have first-hand experience at how helpful MIOSHA can be to the success of their program.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • We at ABC-SEMI pledge to disburse all communication and knowledge to our members and to continue sharing MIOSHA information.
  • MIOSHA will provide insight on how to maintain a top-notch safety and health management system with ABC members.

Outcomes of Alliance Activities:

  • The best outcome is to have a safer workforce. Some other expected outcomes are improved relationships, improved safety knowledge, participation in the MIOSHA programs that are available.

The alliance agreement is effective on the date of signing and will be in effect for 3 years. Prior to the expiration of the agreement, the parties will confer and evaluate whether the agreement should be extended.
