Overview

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Construction Association of South Florida (CASF) agreed to establish an Alliance to promote safe and healthful working conditions for employees in the construction industry, particularly hard-to-reach and youth workers.

OSHA and CASF conducted all required meetings as scheduled on – September 28, 2006; October 26, 2006; and May 24, 2007.

Training and Education

Events
  • The OSHA Area Director, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, participated in OSHA Update seminar focusing on OSHA's multi-employer policy.
     
  • On February 22, 2007, the CASF conducted the 5th Annual Safety Expo
     
  • During this period the group conduced safety training focused on the safe use of scaffolding

Outreach and Communications

Events
  • On February 16, 2007, an OSHA news release was issued regarding the CASF 5th Annual Safety Expo. The Expo was also posted on the OSHA Event Page to alert employers and employees in south Florida.
     
  • During this period the group assisted in the distributed of safety and health outreach material developed by OSHA Region IV, such as the Falls, and Struck-By CDs, as well as the Tool Box Review Booklet
     
  • During this period CASF members were registered for the OSHA Region IV e-newsletter.
Products
  • During this period success stories regarding this Alliance were written and placed in the CASF's newsletter (FOCUS).

IV. Results
  • Significant achievements in the area of training and education include the accomplishment through training at the CASF's 5th Annual Safety Expo.
V. Upcoming Milestones
  • Continue to promote safety & health in the construction industry
     
  • Continue to support the Safety and Health Expo with participation from organizations such as Florida Atlantic University, the Associated General Contractors' South and East Coast Chapters.
