I. Alliance Background: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Safe State, and the Alabama State Building and Construction Trades Council (ASBCTC) recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces. OSHA, Safe State, and the ASBCTC hereby form an Alliance to provide ASBCTC members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to falls resulting from the use of aerial lifts and scaffolding, as well as other prevalent construction industry hazards.

Overview: This alliance was formed between the participating agencies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with the purpose of promoting safe and healthful working conditions for ASBCTC members in the state of Alabama.

Implementation Team Membership: OSHA, Safe State, and the Alabama State Building and Construction Trades Council.

Evaluation Period: July 13, 2005 through June 23, 2006

Events

  • The alliance has provided training on construction hazards to local labor organizations utilizing Georgia Tech Ed Center.

Products

  • Alliance members developed a brochure focusing on aerial lifts and scaffolding with funding arranged.

IV. Results

Refer to the events above. Please note this agreement was impacted by the Hurricane Recovery effort in the Gulf Coast (Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana)

V. Upcoming Milestones in FY 2007

  • Alliance members to provide brochures on aerial lifts and scaffolds to ASBCTC members focusing on hazards and how to prevent exposure to fall hazards,
  • Alliance members will plan another project of interest for the labor alliance members.
