    Alliance Overview.

    The purpose of the Alliance is to work together to provide expertise to develop training and education programs for Hispanic construction employers and employees. Focus points are prevention of injuries and illnesses associated with falls from heights, scaffolding, electrical hazards, chemical exposures and material safety data sheets, first aid, and interpretation of blue prints; deliver or arrange for delivery of safety courses on OSHA standards related to construction hazards.

    • Roberto Sanchez, Area Director, Birmingham OSHA Area Office; Vicenta Bonet Smith, President – Asociación Contratistas Hispanos, LLC.
       
    • This association is still in the developmental step and the group is in the process of organizing and expanding its operation. Recruiting of new members has been difficult and the members are not active participants in the activities of the association.

    Training and Education
     
    • In October 2007, the Alliance group supported the Latino Festival at Linn Park, in Birmingham, Alabama. OSHA tended a booth to provide safety and health information (In Spanish and English) to attendees. OSHA 10-hour cards were issued to those completing an OSHA 10-hour class offered during the festival.
       
    Outreach and Communication
     
    • In October 2007, the Alliance group supported the Latino Festival at Linn Park, in Birmingham, Alabama.   5. Upcoming Milestones
     
    • OSHA does not wish to renew this Alliance due to inactivity of the Asociación Contratistas Hispanos. Repeated attempts by the Birmingham Area Office Area Director and the Birmingham Area Office CAS to initiate some activity have received no action.
