ALLIANCE ANNUAL REPORT

June 18, 2007
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
WILMINGTON AREA OFFICE, REGION III
AND
THE DELAWARE SAFETY COUNCIL

The Alliance was signed on June 2, 2005. OSHA and the Delaware Safety Council have provided council members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources to help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in developing defensive driving and forklift safety courses for corporate fleet operations and businesses throughout their service area.

This report covers a one year period, starting June 2006 and ending June 2007.

Implementation Team Meetings
    June 22, 2006 – Wilmington, DE

Training & Education

Conducted numerous classes with regard to Forklift Operations and a Train the Trainer Program which were well attended by council membership. Conducted the Corporate Driver Evaluation Program which is a "behind the wheel" driver evaluation program for corporations with employees who had access to company vehicles. This program provides specific feedback concerning driving techniques that may be flawed and are in need of correction. In 2006, 149 drivers from various Delaware companies participated in this program. This was an increase of 67 drivers from the previous year.

Additional training courses provided are the Flagger Training Course, individuals (Flaggers) operating on Delaware Highways must receive certification training prior to working this job. The council certified 369 individuals in the year 2006.

Outreach and Communication

Events


"Eggs with OSHA" – Held quarterly, which features up dates concerning OSHA Policies, Procedures, etc.

Training Seminars were held during the months of June, and October 2006, February, and March of 2007, concerning Forklift Safety and Forklift Instructor Development Courses in Wilmington, DE.

Regular distribution of safety advisories to the local media during the year resulted in interviews on CN-8-TV, WDEL Radio, Community Newspapers, ON-Line Delaware as well as other media outlets.

Results

This Alliance is considered a success and has been renewed as of June 15, 2007 for a two year period and will automatically be renewed annually thereafter. It has met several objectives during the course of this evaluation period including the development of training materials and programs and educating employers, and employees on Defensive Driving skills for the corporate fleet as well as the safe operation of material handling equipment.
