Recognized Analytical Methods -US

Today in the United States, the most accepted methods for analysis of quartz are XRD, IR, and, to a limited extent, colorimetric. The three government agencies have contributed established methodology which differ slightly (OSHA exclusively uses XRD, MSHA uses both IR and XRD, and NIOSH has published methods or all three techniques): XRD: Methods are OSHA ID-142, NIOSH 7500. Subtle differences are noted in correction factors for self-absorption and sample preparation. IR: Methods are MSHA P-7 and NIOSH 7602. Subtle differences are noted in sample preparation. Colorimetric: Method NIOSH 7601 The methods for all substances developed by the three agencies have been well-documented, tested, and are performance-driven; when one method fails to perform, it soon becomes obsolete.
