The likelihood of contracting Legionnaires' disease
depends on the level of contamination in the water source, the susceptibility of
the person exposed, and the intensity of exposure. The following references aid
in recognizing and preventing hazards associated with Legionnaires' disease in
the workplace.

information to assist industrial hygienists in the assessment of work sites

procedures to identify probable water sources, and control strategies. The

Guideline for Preventing Healthcare-Associated Pneumonia. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Updates,
expands, and replaces the previously published CDC "Guideline for
Prevention of Nosocomial Pneumonia”. The new guidelines are designed to
reduce the incidence of health-care-associated pneumonia and other severe,
acute lower respiratory tract infections in acute-care hospitals and in
other health-care settings (e.g., ambulatory and long-term care
institutions) and other facilities where health care is provided.
