When working on or in lifeboats, care should be taken to ensure the lifeboat does not fall.
 
Work In or On Lifeboats
Potential Hazards:

Injuries due to falling out of lifeboats or the lifeboat being released from suspension with workers inside.

Requirements and Example Solutions:
  • Before workers are permitted to work on or in a lifeboat, the lifeboat must be secured to prevent accidental release. [1915.96(a)]
  • Workers must not remain in boats while the boats are hoisted into final stowed position. [1915.96(b)]
  • Workers must not work on the outboard side unless the lifeboat is secured. [1915.96(c)]
