Injuries from fires, explosions, falls, and unsafe atmospheres may be avoided with careful preparation and adequate testing. OSHA requires the following precautions as part of confined or enclosed space entry: Periodic re-testing (see Pre-Entry: Testing the Atmosphere) Warning signs and labels Visual inspection Ventilation Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Shipyard Competent Person (SCP), Certified Marine Chemist (CMC), and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)  PPE Selection: Workers in Confined or Enclosed Spaces) Rescue teams (see Pre-Entry: Establishing Rescue Teams) Figure 1: Testing space for entry.      eTools Home : Shipyard Employment Scope | Glossary | Additional Resources | Viewing / Printing Instructions | Credits
