Department of Transportation (DOT). Oversees the formulation of national transportation policy and promotes intermodal transportation.

Aviation Administration (FAA). Oversees the safety of civil aviation. It also regulates a program
to protect the security of civil aviation, and enforces regulations under the Hazardous Materials Transportation
Act for shipments by air.

use of safety data, both inside and outside the agency, and to help improve aviation safety.

Database and Synopses. Contains National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) information from 1962 and later about
civil aviation accidents and selected incidents within the United States, its territories and possessions, and in international
waters.

Safety Has Improved for U.S. Airlines. Air
Transport Association (ATA). Links to latest testimony and statistics
presented by ATA, the trade organization of principal US airlines.
From 2002 through 2004, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
reported that US airlines carried nearly 1.9 billion passengers and
recorded just 34 fatalities, and only three
fatal accident in 31 million scheduled departures.
